In recognition ofDomestic Violence Month (October), U-MDivision of Public Safety & Security, Ann Arbor PoliceDepartment,Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office, and SafeHouse Center willhost its 9th Annual Purple Run on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 8:00am at Mitchell Field/Gallup Park 1900 Fuller Rd., Ann Arbor, MI.
The Annual Purple Runisanexciting collaborationbetweenthe UniversityofMichiganPolice Department, the AnnArbor Police Department, theWashtenawCountyProsecutor’s Office, and SafeHouse Center to bringour communitytogetherwhilehighlighting the prevalence of Domestic Violence. InWashtenawCounty, lawenforcement and advocates workverycloselywith one another and, whether it isonactivecasesor communityevents, we areactivelyengaged in protecting andsafeguarding the public.
“The Purple Run is a greatway to showsurvivors that they are not alone, thatas a community we stand with them, and thattogether we can break the cycle of violence that happens every day.” said Christine Watson, Executive Director of SafeHouse Center.
Every 60 seconds, 20 people are subject to inter-partner violence. We are working together to bring this number down! We’re running domestic violence out of town.
The cost of the run is $35 if you pre-register, $40 for Day-Of Registration and students receive $5 off. Children under 12 are free.
The proceeds raised during this 5k fun run benefit SafeHouse Center, which is an organization within Washtenaw County that is working to build a community free of domestic violence and sexual assault.
