Acoustic Routes Concerts and The Ark are proud to present Blues and Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, civil rights icon, GRAMMY® Award-winner and chart-topping soul, gospel and R&B pioneer Mavis Staples live in concert for the benefit of The Breakfast at St. Andrew’s daily meal program in Ann Arbor.
Staples has been an irresistible musical force for decades. She marched with Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., performed at John F. Kennedy’s inauguration and sang in Barack Obama’s White House. At a time when most artists begin to wind down, she is releasing some of her most important work, including three critically-acclaimed albums recorded with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and the remarkable and timely We Get By – her latest collaboration with multi-GRAMMY winner Ben Harper.
Staples’ performance marks the 11th time Acoustic Routes and The Ark, Ann Arbor’s world-renowned folk and roots music club, have worked together to raise money for the Breakfast at St. Andrew’s, which has served a free meal to anyone in need every day without fail since the summer of 1982.
