Special Event: A Children’s Book Reading with Author Malcolm Newsome

Featuring Sydney’s Big Speech

The Roadhouse loves books of all kinds—children’s books, too! So we couldn’t be more excited about welcoming children’s book author Malcolm Newsome from Chicago to read and discuss his latest book, Sydney’s Big Speech. This unique after-school event will be tailored for families, yet all are welcome.

Malcolm Newsome is an acclaimed children’s book author and married father of five. His beautifully written and illustrated books offer hope and possibility to young people everywhere. His most recent, Sydney’s Big Speech, offers insight into perseverance, overcoming challenges, and working hard to achieve your goals. As they turn the pages, readers will discover an affectionate father-daughter story about a girl learning to conquer her fears of public speaking at school, who finds inspiration from Black women leaders including Vice President Kamala Harris.

On Tuesday, Nov. 12th, round up your kids and bring them by the Roadhouse for an enticing story hour with Malcolm Newsome! He will read to us about Sydney and her “Yes, I can!” achievements, answer questions, and offer activity pages for all attendees while we enjoy after school snacks from the Roadhouse kitchen. Books will be available for purchase and autograph.
