overview

Join Tammy’s Tastings and The Newton of Ypsilanti for a unique cocktail, food, architecture, and history event at the The Newton of Ypsilanti, a historic home turned bed and breakfast and community gathering place. You’ll start your journey in the actual 18th century tavern located in the basement, where you’ll mix up a libation and learn about the pre-history of the cocktail in America. Then you’ll venture upstairs to the beautifully decorated parlor to learn about the Golden Age of cocktails and the history of this 19th century building. Next stop – the speakeasy, where we’ll be talking about Prohibition and shaking up a 1920’s favorite. The final stop on your time traveling adventure will be the post-war 1950’s when Tiki cocktails were all the rage.
At each stop you will mix a cocktail and enjoy a period-appropriate snack to pair. Period dress (you pick the period) is encouraged! Your ticket includes four paired appetizers and four cocktail samples (totaling two full cocktails). Thematic small bites are enough to make a full meal.
After the event, additional drinks and snacks will be available for purchase if you’d like to stay longer. You could even make a night of it and book a stay at The Newton!
Access note: Portions of the event are located in the basement, so you must be able to navigate stairs to participate fully.
