Enjoy National Travel & Tourism Week
May 7-13, 2023
National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) is an annual industry tradition celebrating the value travel holds for our economy, businesses, personal well-being and more. #TravelForward
Established in 1983 by a congressional resolution, National Travel and Tourism Week (NTTW) is an annual tradition celebrating the U.S. travel community and travel’s essential role in stimulating economic growth, cultivating vibrant communities, creating quality job opportunities, inspiring new businesses and elevating the quality of life for residents. This year marks the 40th anniversary of NTTW and is the first full week of May from May 7-13.
The travel industry has a profound economic impact on the United States. Prior to the pandemic the U.S. travel industry generated $2.6 trillion in economic impact. The travel industry supports nearly 20 million American jobs and is a critical component to the economic vitality of communities in every state.
Here in Washtenaw County, 6.1 million people visited our local communities in 2021 and spent $899 million dollars shopping, dining, staying overnight and exploring our communities. Visitor spending supported 6,800 jobs in Washtenaw County and generated $33.1 million in state and local tax revenue to provide public essential services that our residents rely on, such as K-12 education, local libraries, parks, road services, public safety and more.
Tourism Industry Coalition of Michigan (TICOM) and Pure Michigan will celebrate the collective strength of Michigan's travel industry during National Travel and Tourism Week with a private press event kick-off in Ann Arbor. Pure Michigan is also promoting special offers and packages during NTTW. Additionally, Pure Michigan is livestreaming interviews with travel industry leaders in Washtenaw County and across Michigan throughout the week. Please visit Michigan.org for more NTTW details and info on the statewide special offers and packages.
