Ann Arbor area restaurants need our support now more than ever. With the COVID-19 crisis keeping folks in their homes, small businesses like Amer’s Mediterranean Deli, Ray’s Red Hots, The Brown Jug, and many others are dependent upon takeout and delivery orders to keep them going (and their staffs employed!) right now. Luckily, the Ann Arbor Area is full of tasty options to keep your belly and taste buds happy.
Ama Bistro
This is Ann Arbor’s top spot for authentic Albanian food – like khima (a flavorful beef stew) and bhurani (a classic vegetarian dish), as well as other Mediterranean mainstays like hummus wraps, Greek salad, and gyros.
Good Time Charley’s
Ann Arbor’s classic campus spot has enchanted students and others for over 40 years. Try the Black Bean Quinoa burger for a vegan option or go straight for pub-style menu items like chicken tenders, queso fries, or a BBQ bacon cheeseburger.
Grange Kitchen & Bar
You don’t get much more farm-to-table than Grange, with options like Old Brick Farms duck breast with caramelized apples, whole roasted chicken with garlicy broccoli rabe, local beets salad, and Tantre Farm squash soup. 90% of Grange’s food comes from local farms, so when you get takeout here, you’re supporting more than just a local restaurant – you're sustaining a whole food ecosystem. Grange also has a virtual tip jar established for their kitchen and bar staff who are on unpaid leave right now.
TeaHaus
A true Ann Arbor gem, TeaHaus is a beloved Kerrytown tea shop with arguably the best macarons in the city and more tea options than you can imagine. When you’re staying cozy at home, tea is just what you need, right? You can order online or by phone for curbside pickup.
Zola Bistro
Located outside of downtown, Zola Bistro is known for its internationally-inspired food and amazing crepes (both sweet and savory!). They’re delivering for the first time ever, plus offering curbside pickup and carryout. Pro tip: try the Turkish Eggs for a spinach and feta take on breakfast eggs!
Smokehouse 52
In the west side of the county in the lovely town of Chelsea, you’ll find some of the best BBQ around. Smokehouse 52 has pulled pork, beef brisket, ribs, mac & cheese, and the best banana pudding we’ve ever had. BONUS: There’s a Saline location as well, if you’re based in the south side of the county!
Joe and Rosie Coffee and Tea
One of the most under-the-radar lunch spots in the county is offering takeout from its Dexter location, right in downtown. Perfect for lunch, you’ll find avocado toast, lox & bagel, and lots of sandwich options (we’re partial to the egg salad in particular). Grab a smoothie or espresso drink while you’re there!
Original Gravity Brewing Company
This place isn’t just for great beer! Yes, you can still grab a growler of your favorite OG brew, but also consider ordering one of their pastrami reubens, or honey mustard club sandwiches. Yum!
Two Black Sheep
Located in the pristine village of Manchester, Two Black Sheep is a small restaurant with big flavors. Our favorite items on the menu include the stuffed mushrooms, loaded potato soup, and chicken parmesan fettuccini.
Brewed Awakenings
You won’t find a friendlier, more inclusive little café than Brewed Awakenings in Saline. Carryout options include menu items like chicken tortilla soup, macaroni & cheese, and tons of baked goods. They’ll even bring your order to your car!
Casablanca
We can hardly make a list of great takeout spots in Washtenaw County without including the fabulous Casablanca. This Middle Eastern and Moroccan restaurant truly has some of the best food in the entire county at really affordable prices. We recommend the hummus, the bistilla (a chicken pastry dish), the lentil soup, any of their tagines, and the warm, sweet mint tea.
Another Idea: Prefer to have home delivery or pickup for multiple meals for an entire week? Ann Arbor has those options as well! Here are a few options for these services:
No matter how you choose to support small businesses this spring and beyond, be sure to follow the requirements and recommendations of local and state health officials, the CDC, and your health care provider. View our additional resources related to COVID-19.
