TO ALL LOCAL UNION BUSINESS MANAGERS AND TRAINING DIRECTORS/COORDINATORS:

Dear Brothers and Sisters:

First and foremost, we hope you, your families, your fellow members, and their families are healthy, safe, and secure.

As you know, the International Apprentice Contest has been cancelled again this year. In the interest of protecting the safety and health of all our members, we have decided to move all 2021 in-person Instructor Training Program (ITP) classes to virtual using a Zoom platform. While we are all disappointed, due to the volume of participants at our program and the unknowns that still linger due to COVID-19, we feel this is the best decision to keep everyone safe and healthy.

This year’s virtual Instructor Training Program will be held on Monday, August 9th – Friday, August 13th. Registration will open in May, and we will provide a schedule for training webinars for both our students and the ITP faculty prior to the event to ensure everyone’s success. In addition to virtual classes, we will be holding a virtual UA Block Party via Zoom for all UA members and families to participate and show our continued support for the Semper Fi Fund and the Michigan Hospitality Industry Employee Relief Fund. Together with our partners at Washtenaw Community College and Destination Ann Arbor, we plan to do all we can to make this year’s ITP engaging and successful.

Finally, to assist locals and encourage participation, the International Training Fund will be offering a grant for instructors to attend the virtual ITP. Additional details will be forthcoming. While we know it has been a long year in front of your computers, we hope this grant will allow every local to participate.

As always, the UA’s Education and Training Department is available to assist you in any way we can. These are challenging and difficult times, but the UA is strong and resilient. Our solidarity will see us through.

Fraternally,

Mark McManus, General President
James G. Pavesic, Director of Education and Training
