Planning a trip to Ann Arbor is half the fun, and your friends at Destination Ann Arbor are here to help map out your full-day itinerary!
We asked a few folks from our team about their local go-tos around Ann Arbor. Rachel, Zach, Christine, Tasha, and Meaghan all pitched in. Here’s what the team had to say:
Did you know: We're Certified Tourism Ambassadors for Washtenaw County, so these picks are staff-tested and locally loved!
What are your favorite things to do around Ann Arbor?
-
Rachel: I recently got into crocheting with the help of our colleague, Jenni, so Spun in Kerrytown has been a favorite of mine. I tend to combine my scavenging with another hobby of mine: snacking. I’ll pop over to Zingerman’s Deli or order the smashed potatoes from Miss Kim to-go after I’m done rifling through yarn.
-
Zach: My favorite things to do include trying new restaurants and hiking & kayaking, and checking out fun events going on in the area.
-
Christine: Exploring trails is one of my favorite ways to unwind, especially at the Arb, along the B2B Trail in Dexter, and at North Bay Park in Ypsilanti. Being near the water brings a sense of calm, and in warmer months I love taking that feeling onto the Huron River, kayaking from Argo Park to Gallup Park.
-
Meaghan: The farmers market downtown on Saturdays. I have been going since I was a child! I love to golf when weather allows – a personal favorite is Leslie Golf Course.
Where are you getting coffee or a quick breakfast?
-
Rachel: I love popping into RoosRoast! The Rosewood location has a really great vibe. Lobster Butter Love coffee is my favorite. I like to keep it simple with a splash of cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon.
-
Zach: Coffee is a must for me. I’ve been on a cortado kick and love the vibe at Vertex Coffee Roasters!
-
Tasha: Sweetwaters Coffee & Tea was my first coffee experience in Ann Arbor, and it instantly set the tone. I found myself genuinely impressed. My go-to order is a white chocolate mocha. Sweetwaters offers something extra: ambience. The artwork, thoughtful layout, and intentional spaces for reading, casual meetings, or quiet moments make it feel welcoming and creative.
Where do you recommend going for lunch or dinner in Ann Arbor?
-
Rachel: My favorite lunch spot, and my coworkers can attest to this, is Le Soup Le Dog on Main Street! I love the variety and I can always count on the quality every single time.
-
Zach: We have so many great options! For lunch, I’m going to Holiday’s, Slurping Turtle, or Zingerman’s Roadhouse. Dinner is at Knight’s Steakhouse, Sidetrack for a burger, or Ashley’s for some fish & chips.
-
Meaghan: Salt Springs Brewery in Saline! Great beer, food and ambiance. Fun fact, it used to be a church!
-
Christine: I’ve eaten my way around the world, and as a self-proclaimed foodie, Peridot is still one of my favorite restaurants. A quiet standout every food lover should experience.
What are you doing after dinner?
-
Rachel: I recently entered into a friendly bocce competition at Coratti’s Pizzeria Bar & Bocce. The courts were in a beautifully decorated private room, and the food and cocktails were incredible!
-
Zach: In the summer, I’m kayaking the Huron River or at A2 Summer Streets downtown. Besides that, I’m attending a sporting event, concert, or grabbing a nightcap with friends. It’s fun to see the nightlife in our area!
-
Meaghan: Getting a craft cocktail at Nightcap while enjoying the curated playlist.
Where else should be a must-visit on the Ann Arbor area itinerary?
-
Rachel: Jolly Pumpkin has won my heart with their JP Burger. Something about the combo of mushrooms and bacon on the burger, paired with truffle fries, really sealed the deal!
-
Zach: Yes! La Torre Taqueria in Ypsilanti is AMAZING! I love the shrimp tacos with hot sauce. DropTop Pizza in Saline is fantastic. I’m a huge fan of the ‘Joey’s Favorite’.
-
Tasha: I have to give a shout-out to Paesano Restaurant & Wine Bar. After a client’s site tour, I took her here for lunch, and it was the perfect choice. The ambiance and service stood out: warm, inviting, and effortlessly professional. The decor strikes that balance of old-school Italian charm with a modern touch, which felt both elevated and comfortable for lunch.
And the pasta? Truly the star of the show. You can absolutely tell it’s made fresh. The menu feels very intentional and well-curated, which always impresses clients who value a meaningful dining experience. The price point is spot-on, making it an easy recommendation. It’s places like this that make showcasing Ann Arbor such a joy as part of our work at Destination Ann Arbor / Washtenaw County.
We'd like to thank our colleagues Rachel, Zach, Tasha, Christine, and Meaghan for sharing these recommendations!
