Koreaworld Visits Ann Arbor

Korean cuisine is a part of Ann Arbor’s eclectic culinary scene. Here, inspired chefs don’t just cook– they create experiences to bring guests together and honor Korean culture.

“Korean food is really important to Ann Arbor and it’s a big moment for Korean cuisine…” – Chef Deuki Hong

cuisine from Miss kimWe recently connected with Korean American Chef Deuki Hong and food and culture author Matt Rodbard who visited Ann Arbor’s Miss Kim for a special dinner and book release of Koreaworld: A Cookbook. The book features recipes from chefs worldwide, including Miss Kim’s own Chef Ji Hye Kim.

Listen in as Deuki and Matt share the importance of Korean cuisine, discuss the book’s connection to Ann Arbor, and extend their appreciation to Chef Ji Hye.

Chef Ji Hye Kim creates exceptionally flavorful experiences for restaurant goers, and it shows! She's a 4-time James Beard Award Nominee, has been featured in Midwest Living, and honored as a ‘Best New Chef’ by Food & Wine.

“It’s just general kindness, I think she exhibits kindness with her staff and is really caring about detail”. – Chef Deuki

We spoke with Chef Ji Hye about the joys of cooking Korean cuisine in Ann Arbor, how her Korean ancestors have inspired her, and where she likes to visit on a day off.

“I am kind of a student of Korean culinary history and culture. Every time I go to Korea or open a book, I learn something new. – Chef Ji Hye
