Things To Do
Because of Dexter’s proximity to the Huron River and Mill Creek, outdoorsy types come to canoe, kayak, fish, and sail (the Michigan Sailing Club is located in Chelsea); visit one of the area’s glorious Metroparks; or walk, run, or bike along the idyllic Border to Border Trail, where Mother Nature really gets to show her stuff. Plus, this pastoral, arts-loving town annually hosts the Paint Dexter Plein Air Festival, which invites artists to come and paint outdoors, as well as Dexter Art Gardens, a temporary installation of three juried outdoor artworks in Dexter’s historic district. If musical theater is your thing, don’t miss your chance to see a production at Dexter’s award-winning Encore Musical Theatre Company; and before or after the show, stroll over to Monument Park, where local outdoor performances and festivals regularly take place during the spring, summer, and fall.
