Things To Do

Chelsea may be one of the only towns around where you can, on the same day, take a tour of a working mill, then catch a world premiere theater production – but this quirky diversity is a central part of Chelsea’s appeal. With its stroll-worthy downtown, and its close proximity to several golf courses and the Waterloo Recreation Area (where visitors can hike, ski, bike, fish, and camp), Chelsea often feels like an oasis. In the summer, there’s weekly live music and more at Sounds & Sights on Thursday Nights; Chelsea’s annual Sculpture Walk offers a rotating, outdoor exhibition of works in the downtown area; and if you want to do that mill/theater day, you can tour the Jiffy Mix plant, which has long made its home at the Chelsea Milling Company, then visit Jeff Daniels’ renowned Purple Rose Theater, which stages brand new plays and, occasionally, some classics.
